“Vulnerability is about having the courage to show up and be seen…Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weaknesses.”

~ Brene Brown

“There can be no vulnerability without risk; there can be no community without vulnerability; there can be no peace, and ultimately no life, without community.

~ M. Scott Peck

This Sunday we continue with our sermon series, “On The Mend”, specifically “Mending the Thread of Vulnerability. This week, as I’ve reflected on the story of the woman at the well found in the Gospel of John, I’ve been pondering what it means to be vulnerable. Without question we catch glimpses of vulnerability in the woman, the community and Jesus. The woman when she claims her self-worth and runs back to share the good news with the community; the community when they step out in trust to go meet with Jesus, and Jesus when he simply asks for a needed drink of water from one who has been deemed the unsuitable other. I wonder, where do we see vulnerability in ourselves? How are we vulnerable individually? In community?  When have we risked being courageous amidst our fear?

Explore these questions and more this Sunday as our pastoral intern, Jon Loggins, takes us on a  journey through vulnerability. See you then! I’ll save a seat for you!

Peace be yours ~
