Disciple 1

Mondays 7-9:30pm / 34 weeks beginning September 13

Disciple 1 is a long-term, disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. Disciple 1 draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.  Facilitated by Rev. Wally Butts and Curtiss Hayes.

Change the World
2 sessions to choose from:

Sundays 9:50-10:50am / 8 weeks beginning September 12
Wednesdays 7-8pm / 8 weeks beginning September 15

During this study, we will wrestle with the following challenge set forth in Pastor/Author Mike Slaughter's powerful
introduction: "Something is not working. Despite the church's place of prominence in American culture and the ubiquity of the church in every American town, misconceptions about the faith of Jesus Christ run rampant today. Christians are known more for exclusivity than for love, more for potlucks than for solving world hunger. It's time for churches to get over the cruise-ship mentality of being a program provider, and reconnect with the true message and mission of Jesus: to bring good news to the poor, release to the captives, and freedom to the oppressed."  Facilitated by Jill Buettner.
Invitation to the New Testament

Sundays 5:30-7pm / 9 weeks beginning September 12

Come explore the writings of the New Testament using the story of Jesus as the starting point. This study looks at how the early church was shaped by the story of Jesus and how the church learned to  develop as disciples and create communities of faith. As we become more familiar with these writings, we can anticipate a renewal of our commitment to be shaped, personally and communally, by the story of Jesus.  Facilitated by Rev. Lois Cooper.

Invitation to Romans

Thursdays 9:30am / 8 weeks beginning September 9

Exploring how people have interpreted Romans through the ages is a good lens to view the history of Christianity itself. By the end of this study we hope to have a more informed understanding of Paul's radical vision of God's relationship to both Christians and Jews and to their relationship to each other.  Facilitated by Leslie Simon and Anita Watson.
